Just six this time? I can handle six.

I've been tagged by Dave C. to participate in this meme:

6 Random Things About Me

1. I am a supertaster, a person who experiences taste - especially bitterness - with far greater intensity than average. I also have a strong revulsion to almost any pungent food (I like only a hint of garlic) and any food that tastes, for lack of a better word, spoiled (rye bread, brie, etc.) Grapefruit, raw onions, Brussels sprouts, and spinach are absolutely inedible. One piece of diced onion can ruin an entire hamburger for me. It's all I can taste from that point on. Coffee is merely for warmth in the winter and must be heavy on cream and sweetener. Cilantro smells and tastes like a strong deodorant soap to me, which is usually a good indicator of a supertaster. My favorite Mexican restaurant recently began using cilantro in their salsa and I'm heartbroken. My sense of smell is equally sensitive. I get extreme headaches if I spend more than 30 seconds in the detergent aisle.

2. I was well into my thirties before I learned the real words to "I'd Really Love to See You Tonight" by England Dan and John Ford Coley. It's "movin' in" not "the linen." Even knowing that, I can't understand why they say it like "moo vinnen." That's what they get for cramming a 2-1 syllable combination into a 1-2 beat.

3. I believe ketchup doesn't belong on your hot dog if you're more than 12 years of age. Mustard, relish, chili, or cheese. Everything else is anathema. See #1 for my opinion on onions.

4. I am a Toyota man. They last 20 years, are very forgiving, and get great mileage.

5. I am a Smarties junkie. I cannot have a bag of Smarties near me. I will eat every last one of them in succession. Non-stop. It's scary. The sugar buzz makes my heart race.

6. True story: Once, as a teenager, I was washing my hair in the shower and got shampoo in my eyes. As I began to rinse away the burning soap, I tried to open my eyes to let the water in. When I opened them, I couldn't see anything! I kept rinsing and rinsing frantically but every time I opened them again there was still only utter blackness. I yelled, slung the shower door open and flailed at the wall trying to find a towel. Suddenly I heard the hallway door open and my mother's voice saying, "You didn't go blind! The power went out!" I guess she knew every adolescent boy's deepest fear...

thanks for sharing.

how's saban got the football team? 'tide going to any good this yr in the always tough sec?

I'm looking for a gradual improvement for the Tide. We had the #1 recruiting class in the country. 8-5 is doable. 9-4 would not be unthinkable. They lost to presumptive division-winners Georgia and LSU in overtime and in the waning seconds last year (respectively) and are capable of taking them to the wire or beating them again this year. Either would be a huge win and confidence builder. Most of the major SEC match-ups (including those two) are road games, however, so that could be a factor. Fortunately we're still on a bye year with Florida.

Shula had to take a lot of delinquents and me-first players onboard during the probation years. Saban is weeding them out and letting attrition take the rest. I think he'll turn it around. The days of winning the SEC 75% of the time are gone but they'll snag a few titles in the years ahead.

You said, "It's "movin' in" not "the linen." Even knowing that, I can't understand why they say it like "moo vinnen." " ---- I learned something here....I always thought it sounded like, "I'm not talking 'bout Bolivia"...or "Believin"

Oh, and that shower story was good stuff!

so why were you afraid you had gone blind? :)I'm not sure I understand!

Also, on your lists page you mention you've seen a live birth. I have seen three! (not my kids, who were c-sections and having your own is nothing like just getting to watch!)You're right - it's an unbelievable experience. And I closed my eyes when it came to the episiotimies! yikes!

I randomly stumbled upon your blog--actually it was the first one in English after pressing "next blog"--and despite the fact that my blood runs Volunteer orange, I am a fan. It is rare to find Christians who are willing to be vulnerable openly. And yet, I'm pretty sure this is what we are all called to be. I won't be praying for BAMA this fall, but know you and your wife will be in my prayers. I'll spend time praying for God's will for y'all so you can just boldy approach the throne and say whatever you feel like.

Hey Johnny, did we scare you away? You haven't posted in a long time.

Sharp said...

No.

The culprit: Facebook. They should never have told me about it.

I'm writing something new for here but it needs major editing. Hang tight.

Ahh, Facebook. Yes, I can see how that can happen. I started to set one up too, but then decided that between my blog and my website, that was enough to keep me busy.
