Once upon a time, I asked for a physical description of someone to see if I could recognize them.
The response was "Tall, bald in the front, gray hair, doesn't have a degree, glasses, kinda slim."
Um, uh, degree what? That's a visible characteristic? Am I not wearing the right glasses to see that? Or is it so awful a condition to you that it becomes physically manifest once you learn about it? I'm thinking the latter.
Some people sharply divide the world into those with degrees and those without. Those without are apparently "less than."
Didn't bother to tell the speaker that I don't have one (yet) either. He might describe me that way to others.
